Eleven years ago, Kaye Braun of Waukesha, WI couldn't pull herself out of bed. Last summer,
she benched pressed 145 pounds and deadlifted 240 more.
Braun, 44, did the weightlifting at Wisconsin State Fair's annual bench press and deadlift
competition and finished first in the woman's Masters Division.
That's certainly a long way from the woman who was bedridden for an entire year with numerous
problems. Besides being overweight, Braun nearly died when she began hemorrhaging badly after

the birth of her second daughter (she also has a twenty year old daughter). She also suffered
from several serious health problems at the time, including arthritis, osteoporosis, iron-deficient
anemia, chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) and hypoglycemia.

"It was a physical challenge to overcome a lot of things-my health and my weight" said
Braun, a native of Peculiar, MO. "I had exhausted every medical specialist I could find,
but finding out about nutrition was my salvation". She adds "the rejuvenation was
incredible just in the first six weeks and it's been a steady climb and improvement ever since."
Braun, who began weightlifting three years and has dropped over 60 pounds since then, started
the Better Health Club out of her own interest in nutrition. "I had overcome my health
problems, but I decided to get into weight-training because some of my clients
were in bodybuilding and I had terrible back problems" said Braun.
"So rather than going to the chiropractor three times a week, my alternative was to build
my back."
"When I got into it, I just enjoyed it so much. I was gaining so much personal benefit
that I decided I might as well compete." Her victory at the State Fair was actually
her first real competition. "I think it impressed a few people that
somebody at my age could do all this" said Braun. "What's
exciting to me is that I'm preaching the point that I can lift against people
half my age and actually compete against them."
